2013 Activities All activities will be held at the beautiful Manley-Bohlayer Farm unless otherwise stated. The farm is located in the endless mountains at 141 East Canton Cross Road just off Rout 414 and 3 miles east of Canton PA.
April 17 6:30 -8:30 PM Adult Photography Workshop with Wolfram Jobst $10.00 fee
"Master these Camera Buttons for Great Results" preregistration necessary by calling 570-673-3137 Mr. Jobst, of Mansfield, PA, holds a doctoral degree in Chemical Engineering from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology and worked for 25 years in a number of research capacities at the Du Pont Co. in Wilmington, Delaware. He retired in 1992 and now lives with his wife Juanita in Mansfield, PA. Jobst received formal training in photography at the University of Delaware and at the NY Institute of Photography. He advanced artistically through further course work in photography, painting, watercolor, design & composition. He has exhibited extensively in local, regional and international juried exhibits and garnered numerous recognitions for his photographic accomplishments. His recent solo exhibition, "Beauty, Faith and Power" represented a veritable Photo Excursion through times and cultures. Wolfram exhibited his 47 large color prints from January 8-29, 2012 at the Gmeiner Art and Cultural Center in Wellsboro, PA. Wolfram has taught digital photography at the “Center for Lifelong Learning” at Mansfield University, PA, lectured elements of photography at the Grand Canyon Photography Club in Wellsboro, PA and at the Photo Keller Group in Mansfield that he founded in 2004. This class will be held in the Manley-Bohlayer house and is open to experienced as well as beginning photographers. Wolfram will discuss how the dials and "buttons" on digital cameras can be used to set aperture, shutter, exposure and ISO. He will also discuss composition to help participants get better images. Jobst explains, "Within a short period of time, I can help anyone improve their photography skills and get better images."

April 20 11:00 4:00 $40.00 Acrylic Painting Workshop with Sadie Allen preregistration necessary by calling Marcie at 570-673-3137 Sadie Allen is an accomplished artist in many mediums. Sadie has loved art and pursued it her entire life. As a child she sketched and drew on anything that didn't move which included barn walls and floors. Sadie has a BA in Visual Arts from Keystone College in La Plume, PA. One of her recent endeavors is illustrating and writing childrens' books. Sadie gives lessons and does commission work. Her work may be seen in murals at the Milky Way on Rt 14 and Hoover's Hardware in Troy, PA. This class will focus on using Acrylics as Sadie instructs on Color Theory. Each participant will have a finished product to take home at the end of the class. The class will be held in the Manley-Bohlayer house. The class fee covers materials, light desserts and the instructor's fee.All materials will be supplied. Please bring a bag lunch. Coffee, tea and water will be provided as well as a light dessert.

May 4 Endless Mountain Woodturners Demonstrations 10 AM to 2 PM
Free Admission Items available for sale Rekindle the Spirit is excited to present a demonstration by the Endless Mountain Turners, a local chapter of the American Association of Woodturners. The demonstrations will be held at the Manley-Bohlayer Farm where the members will be demonstrating the art and skill of woodturning using the abundant local species of cherry and maple. The turners will be creating bowls and tops on lathes, with emphasis on the safety aspects of turning, proper use of tools and finishes. Items created by the Endless mountain Turners will be available for purchase. Light refreshments will be provided. June 8 Blacksmith Class with Merle Eiffert 9:00 to 3:00 preregistration necessary call Gene at 570-673-8144 Instructor and materials fee $35.00 Merle Eiffert will conduct this class in the well equipped Manley-Bohlayer Blacksmith Shop. All materials will be supplied. The $35.00 fee covers the instructor's time and materials. Participants are asked to bring their own bag lunches. Each participant will have hands on experience creating a project to take home. Class size is limited to allow one on one instruction so please call to reserve your spot.

June 22 11:00 to 5:00 Canton Wine and Cheese Festival Canton Wine and Cheese Festival The Canton Area Chamber of Commerce and Rekindle the Spirit, Inc. have joined together to present the fourth annual Canton Wine & Cheese Festival. The festival will be Saturday, June 22, 2013 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. The event will be held at the same site as the PA Apple 'N Cheese Festival; the historic Manley-Bohlayer farm, located just off Rt. 414 E at 141 East Canton Cross Road. The historic buidlings of the South Meadow of Manley-Bohlayer will also be open. Merle Eiffert, resident blacksmith, will be demonstrating and selling his wares.

Children's Art and Music Workshops Free of charge A series of five children's art and music workshops for elementary school children. The workshops will be held free of charge each Tuesday with various guest instructors. Morning and afternoon sessions are available. (9:30 to 11:30 and 1:00 to 3:00) The sessions are open to children entering first through fifth grades. Each session is limited to 15 students. October 5 and 6 Open House at the Hoagland One Room School House and East Canton Community Hall Work is continually in progress while reconstructing the interior of the Hoagland school and completing displays in the 1897 East Canton Community Hall. Rekindle the Spirit has received wonderful donations over the past years for the school house and hall and would like to show case some of these at the Open House. This open house will coincide with the PA Apple 'n Cheese Festival. The open house is free with admission to the PA Apple 'n Cheese Festival at $5 for adults. Children 12 and under are free admission. Peirce Foundation grant funds have enabled more work to be done on the Community Hall in 2013. Come visit a turn of the nineteenth century school house and community hall. Please see the official Apple 'n Cheese website listed below for times and more information on the festival.
24th annual Pennsylvania Apple 'n Cheese Festival & Fine Art and Photography Show Saturday, October 5 10:00 to 6:00 and Sunday October 6, 10:00 to 5:00 The PA Apple 'n Cheese Festival is the largest festival of its kind in southern New York and northern Pennsylvania. Held the first full weekend of October each year the festival attracts thousands of visitors who enjoy the over 40 palate pleasing food vendors and the 100+ juried artisans and crafters who bring their wares for display and sale. The festival has free on-going entertainment both days featuring live bands, children's activities, demonstrations and contests. Visitors can ride from the on-site parking area in a wagon pulled by Tom Young's Clydesdale horses. Pony rides are offered for children. The festival is spread out across the 12 acre Manley-Bohlayer Farm where it has plenty of room for guests to relax and view attractions without feeling crowded. The historic village area of South Meadow features a working Blacksmith Shop, a working 1860 Cider Press, the Hoagland one room school house and the relocated and refurnished 1897 East Canton Community Hall. The Art and Photography show is free with admission to the Apple 'n Cheese Festival. It show cases fine art and photography from local artists as well as artists from southern New York, New Jersey and much of the state of Pennsylvania. Victorian Country Christmas no admission charge 10:00 to 4:00
Come enjoy an old fashioned country Christmas in the beautifully decorated Manley-Bohlayer House. Members of the Farm Committee under the direction of Marie and Gene Kennedy present a wonderful "down home" event. Local crafters are present with lovely gift items. Visitors will find jewelry, candles, Canton Greenhouse Gang cards, handcrafted wooden items, beautiful fresh wreathes and home made bows along with many other specialty crafts. Guests are able to enjoy free wassil, spiced cider, and homemade cookies. Mrs. Claus usually stops by for a little while to see all the girls and boys who visit. This is wonderful way to start the Christmas season. Call 570-673-8144 for more details.
Arts and Humanities programs of the past have included workshops and programs in fine arts, literature and folk crafts, along with an antique appraisal and auction, a blacksmithing workshop and fun days for children playing “old fashioned” lawn games.
